Thea has been a very pushy fae the last few weeks, taking over almost of my time IRL and Flickr.  Then again, Fantasy Faire is her most special time of year, so in a way I’ve been enjoying the equivalent of a short vacation, barely even logging in as human.  I’ve found it very refreshing, with that step back enabling me to cast a critical eye over my appearance, and make some (necessary?) tweaks here and there, in preparation for moving to my summer — i.e. tanned — skin.  That said, errands still need to be run and (most importantly!) shopping needs to be done.  Maybe I’ll see you in town!!!

My most favorite time of year, I can’t stop smiling and my wings are getting tired from all the excited flapping!  Dedicated to building a World without Cancer, Fantasy Faire is a megaevent benefitting the American Cancer Society , and is in its 17th year of delighting Second Life residents.  To quote from the press release, Fantasy Faire is “the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, roleplayers and performers in the virtual world. From Thursday, April 17 to Sunday May 4, treat yourself to shopping, dance and theater performances, DJ parties, auctions, questing, our Literary Festival, thematic events and roleplaying as thousands of Second Life residents and creators bring their own visions together to support the American Cancer Society’s vision of a world without cancer.

You’ll find fantasy avatars, clothing, furnishings, gadgets and exclusive items available from over 300 of Second Life’s top Fantasy Creators across 18 stunning regions designed by the visionary artists behind many of the most adored spots on the Second Life destination guide.

Equality.  What a loaded word these days.  Sometimes I wonder if it’s truly a fantasy, that everyone starts off on an equal playing field, where only the best minds, best athletes, best artists, best of ANYTHING can rise and excel in their own field, gaining influence but NOT control.  Whether it’s true or not, intentional or not, to me that is part of the essence of Steampunk… where even fae and other non-human species enjoy the same freedom and equality as everyone else.  Perhaps it’s only a dream, but for me at least, it’s a GOOD dream…

You Make Me Feel Like Dancing!

I struggled here a bit whether to title this along the lines of the action in the pic or what I immediately thought of the moment I saw this dress… TEMPTATION.  But I fell in love with this capture, so it won out pretty quickly.  And it WAS a capture, rather than a static pose, which is something I try not to do TOO often because it just gets so frustrating waiting for that perfect second and actually hitting it lol, but we were off in a corner so I felt ok to put on my lights, and shoot!  It also feels really good to have a blogging pic with my partner again… one Flickr friend will often fave  some of my very old pix (2017!) and back then, he was inworld more often and therefore made it into a lot more Flickr shots (my inworld photo album shots just don’t have the same quality for obvious reasons).   Those pix in particular are like a stroll down memory lane… it’s nice to be adding another pic for future “thumbing”, especially one that radiates so much fun and energy, dancing the night away before yielding to the dress’s message about other nighttime activities!!! (wink)

Well, Fridays are notoriously (at least in my head) bad for making a post, but (A) I’m finding that traffic on Flickr is way down, so timing of posts doesn’t seem to make much of a difference anyway, (B) I can leave much of the “marketing” of my post for tonight/tomorrow, when more people will hopefully see it, and (C) doing my taxes has taken over all my “spare” time and everything else has just been being pushed.  This post got caught in the time squeeze, and April is going to be a tough month for me — on top of my normal requirements, it’s Fantasy Faire time, which is my favorite blog event of the year but it eats EVERYTHING… and on top of that, I’m going away for a few days.  Bottom line, wine is definitely called for!!!
