Unless you’re very, very new to Second Life, you probably rent or own a home.  Maybe it’s a small furnished skybox; or maybe, like me, you own land and love having the opportunity to landscape and decorate as the whim takes you.  I’ve actually gone a bit overboard and have two homes — one with my partner on a northwest US-style estate, and one in a tropical mainland “collective” with friends where we all use our premium tiers to create a larger property.  If you have a beach home, or if you just want to decorate a bedroom as if you do, you really don’t need to look any further than this versatile collection.  It includes a whole range of individual pieces with lots of built-in texture choices to either blend in with existing decor, establish something new, or change it up as the mood takes you.  The animated pieces have some brand-new, pretty amazing animations built-in as well.

And the Fairelands are open! That’s right, Fantasy Faire 2020 has begun, open from April 23rd – May 10th! As an official blogger (!!!!) I had a day’s early access, and I spent hours just wandering and exploring.  It’s absolutely amazing, the amount and the quality of the creativity that has been poured lovingly into the 18 regions (13 shopping regions plus 5 Faireland realms that take us beyond commerce, from a Memorial Garden to the Fairelands Quest, the Literary Festival, Performance Stages, from Art Galleries to the Worldling Collection).  And yes, it’s all to celebrate the world of fantasy, but there’s a very serious purpose behind this gathering, and that’s Building A World Without Cancer.  These very talented designers have all created & donated items whose purchase will go towards the fight against cancer. It truly is shopping with a purpose!

So whether you’re a confirmed fantasy enthusiast, into role-playing, or just enjoy exploring and seeing the depth and breadth of imagination that exists in this virtual world we share, come visit Fantasy Faire 2020.  The Faire has reawakened the slumbering fae within me, and I have been very busy bringing her up-to-date and creating a new look (she’s been asleep for years, before the dawn of mesh); you’ll be seeing and hearing from her in the days and weeks to come, and she i considering joining my blog as an ongoing contributor. Mother of Dragons

No, this is not Game of Thrones and I’m no Daenerys of the House Targaryen.  But I do absolutely love the unique, animated fire-breathing dragons that Tylar from Tylar’s Treasures creates and places in creative fantasy builds.  I’ve posted video of them before (in fact, it’s how I learned to even do videos for blogging), and I could not resist doing one for this amazing creation of hers.  The video is up on FlickR; I couldn’t figure out how to put it here.  This fabulous build is featured at the awesome Fantasy Faire, opening later today April 23rd at noon SLT.  Fantasy Faire is an RFL (Relay for Life) Event, which anyone who follows me knows that I’m a huge supporter of, although this is my very first year as an official blogger at the Faire.  Celebrating its 12th year, Fantasy Faire 2020 is the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, role-players and performers in the virtual world.  From its opening today through May 10th, treat yourself to shopping, dance and theater performances, DJ parties, auctions, questing, our Literary Festival, fantasy art, events and role-playing as thousands of Second Life residents and creators bring their own visions together to support the American Cancer Society’s vision of a world without cancer.  That really should be more than just a fantasy, don’t you think?

In addition to the thirteen shopping regions there will also be five Faireland realms that take us beyond commerce, from a Memorial Garden to the Fairelands Quest, the Literary Festival, Performance Stages, from Art Galleries to the Worldling Collection. These bring the Fairelands count for 2020 to eighteen regions, just waiting for you to explore them.  The SLurl to the event will be found on the website once the event opens; I’ll update with the SLurl direct to Tylar’s booth in the description below once the fair opens, since the lands are kept secret till then. Something about this room just feels so French! Maybe it’s the Louis XVI styling mixed with the Hollywood Glam for this month’s Swank event.  All I know is that the room is set for what looks to be a very interesting evening, filled with glamorous well-dressed people, happily socializing and toasting with martinis… I’m so jealous, I think maybe I’ll join them for the martini!  It’s one indulgence that’s allowed during quarantine! Oh well, safety first!

The New Reality

The new reality… that’s what they call it.  I prefer the OLD reality or fantasy, but I guess none of us gets to choose.  Considering how much time I have on my hands, it’s amazing how much difficulty I’m having with my blogging.  With so much emptiness and so many hours to fill, I find it hard to concentrate… not to mention that I’ve been busy developing other distractions — videogames, puzzles, home repairs, and of course lots of reading.  The main issue is that there’s just this underlying worry all the time, stress that just can’t be resolved.  Once it warms up a bit and we can at least sit in the backyard and work in the garden, I think things will improve, but I also think I’m kidding myself and that it will just be more of the same.  Of course, EVERYONE feels it, but I do wonder if that makes it better or worse to have an entire world society locked up in their homes, on edge, worrying about tomorrow.  We all need avatars that can go out there in the real world for us and face the dangers, avatars that can transmit all the feelings, not just the visual and audio but ALL of it… now wouldn’t THAT be something?  Hmmm, I’ll have to daydream about that for a while… Meantime it’s a new month, and all the SL designers are also locked up in their homes worldwide, so they’ve been busy designing simply awesome things, which are now hitting their stores and the the monthly events.  Shopping is, as always, the best therapy!!!!  Keep your eye out for stay-at-home specials… I’ve found a free house, a free head, free clothes, and more…. but the most important thing is to STAY SAFE OUT THERE!!!

Angel of the Morning

I’m not particularly into angels.  Yes I love wings, but even in my fae days (yes, once upon a time many years ago, I played as an elvish-fae hybrid) when I wore wings every day, I never wore angel wings. In fact, when given a choice between being an angel or a devil, I’d have to say I just about always go for the dark side.  But not this time.  Somehow this angel outfit just didn’t hit me as all that angelic, if you get my drift… in fact, it almost seems a bit devilish in that it just exudes temptation.  I found it to be rather inspiring, so much so that rather than just do it the easy way and shoot myself flying or hovering against a cloudy background, I decided to make it much harder, and build a small cloud “set”.   It reminded me of a lesson I’d forgotten of late… I have so much more fun when I do it the hard way, going a bit overboard and doing much more than is necessary in order to approximate the image that’s in my brain…  Well, time to hang up my wings and leave my seat in the clouds…  Happy shopping! A Walk on the Wild Side

OK, so it’s not a walk, but it’s still on the wild side, at least in terms of style. It’s funny though, for someone who’s never been big on animal prints, lately I seem to love them. I made a new friend recently IRL who simply adores them… she says they’re her “trademark”, and wears them — and uses them in everything she does — all the time.  Maybe it’s contagious, I don’t know.  All I DO know is that suddenly I find myself gravitating towards them… not in the most extreme versions certainly (at least not YET lol), but definitely when used tastefully and just adding a bit of that growly factor.  So no, it’s not a “walk on the wild side”, maybe not even a stroll… more like a “sit and watch the wild side up close and personal”.   This outfit does just that, and with the fabric options included in this loveseat, it’s your choice how tame or wild you choose to be.  So go take your own walk… and enjoy both your walk and your shopping!

Wild Spring

The March round of the Swank Event is open, with the theme of Wild Spring! There are so many awesome items this round, it’s easy to go wild… and I’m a bit sorry to say, I already DID! (Actually, I’m not at all sorry… it’s been WILD!)

BSHouse — Garden Set Bella, including the two chairs, set of coffee tables with all decor as shown, & the box shelves on wheels, filled with colorful plants.  I lusted for this set the moment I saw it, & not just because of all the little cupcakes & the other goodies.  The design is a totally unique take on the basket style of furniture, with the tapering shape of the chairs with the open “reeds” at the top bringing African savannahs to my mind.  The set is perfect for a beach or outdoor areas, but can also work for interiors depending on decor.  Lest you think the set is just easy on the eyes, it’s also filled with animations (32 single, 66 couple, 11 sequences).  You can eat & drink from the table too, just by touching. The best seat in the house

Because of my blogging, I’m constantly moving things around my house(s) and properties here in SL (and yes, I have two).  As you may or may not know, I change everything up for the seasons, too.  But even without that, I’m a constant tinkerer, adding and subtracting decor and landscape items, editing the terrain, tweaking this and totally redoing that.  Admittedly, a lot of things are temporary… I set them up, do my blog, maybe keep them for a few days, and then put things back the way the way they were.  But every now and again — and I almost always talk about it in my blog because it’s a pretty special occurrence — I find something that just belongs, and wins if not a permanent place (because after 12 years here, I’ve learned that nothing is “permanent”) a long-term one.  This pergola set found it’s way into my “permanent collection” a while back, it absolutely “makes” the back of my property where I use it as a deck over the water.  And now this basket love seat has definitely earned its place on that deck.  The design is perfect for almost any outdoor space (though it also fits indoor), and I absolutely love the pattern and the colors in the fabrics.  Together, they are absolutely perfect for watching my whale frolic, the sunset (or sunrise for that matter)! I think after all this hard blogging work, I’ll be settling in for that for a while… go enjoy some shopping!
